Peter Horsley was born in West Hartlepool in 1921. Educated at the Dragon School and Wellington College, he joined the Royal Air Force on the outbreak of war, serving in 2nd TAF and Fighter Command. Following the war he had a distinguished career in the RAF, rising to the rank of Air Marshal, and was knighted by the Queen in 1974. During his service he was, first, Equerry to Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh then to the Queen and finally to the Duke of Edinburgh He resigned from the RAF in 1975 to go into bussiness, and become Chairman of several companies in the fields of aviation, philately and printing. He has two children and four step-children, and lives in the countryside in Hampshire with his second wife.
