Roger Holgate is a retired College Lecturer who has spent most of his life studying warfare in museums and libraries. After being commissioned to write several articles for the history supplement of The South Yorkshire Times, he decided to delve further into his father’s experiences as a Quartermaster Sergeant in 9th Battalion of The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry during the Second World War, and to record these memories. The project grew as he researched deeper into the activities of the regiment as a whole and discovered a fascinating, and largely unknown story.
Now sixty-nine, he lives with his wife in his beloved Yorkshire.
